Peaceful with beautiful views and clean, comfy accommodation. We stayed overnight on our way to Kruger. We had a very nice rest surrounded by trees, birds and mountains. We had a wonderful rest during the Easter weekend 2025. The log cabin is ideally situated among the trees in the mountains where you can enjoy the rich birdlife and very beautiful hiking trails. We saw 14 different bird species in the few days without really having to make any effort. Our hosts made us feel very at home and nothing was too much trouble for them to help us where needed. Had a great time at this special place. Wow, what a privilege to be able to stay in such a special place! We spent 4 nights in the Houthuisie in October. Beautiful view of the surrounding mountains and Barbeton. It's quite old, not very spacious, but excellently equipped and we quickly fell in love with it. The Berghuisie definitely has a more spacious porch and will be cooler, because it is made of stone. The photos on the website show the Berghuisie, definitely more spacious and more luxurious than the Houthuisie. We booked there, but apparently there was a problem with the water pump when we arrived. First day was terribly hot, as only a log house can be, but after that it was cooler. The splash pool is small, but nice for cooling off. The owner is very nice and goes out of his way to help where needed, without being intrusive. The location is fantastic, about a few kilometers uphill with a fairly good but steep dirt road which gave our Jimny 4x4 no problems. Barbeton offers lots of things to do, we did the Eureka city and Eureka Pass with Wynand from Dusty Tracks, also the old gold mine and it was well worth the money. The geo-trail was also a revelation and we packed a nice picnic for the route.
