Excellence at its best. The staff was friendly, they accommodated all our needs. We requested a breakfast pack as we were going to leave the hotel at 5:30, and a 5-star breakfast pack was provided.

Great. I had a pleasant one-night stay at Bluewater Bay Sunrise Hotel in Port Elizabeth. The hotel was clean, well-maintained, and offered great value for the price. It was ok. The room was lovely. The view was good - pity about the car park and a row of houses in between the hotel and the sweeping sea views. The two bathroom fans ran non-stop and were pretty loud (for me) and annoying. They could not be switched off. We did enquire about this, and a maintenance guy came and he said they shouldn't be running all the time and promised to come back with someone else, but no one ever came back. Overall, the hotel did not have the best vibe for me. I found the lounge and dining area a bit sparse and too minimalist in decor to create a warm, inviting atmosphere. Reception staff were rather cold and aloof - all of them. Don't expect a warm welcome here. Breakfast was pretty good. The breakfast waitress and dinner waiter were friendly and helpful. My steak dinner was presented like a granny's home-cooked meal. The meal was tasty, but presentation lacked any finesse. The steak was more like a piece of stewing beef with lots of fat, instead of a sirloin, but it tasted quite nice. The cheesecake, on the other hand, was very good and beautifully presented. Not much to do at this hotel - no direct beach access. The pool was out of order and it was an exceptionally hot weekend, and there were no signs to indicate this before we arrived, nor any signs showing this whilst there. The receptionist seemed surprised when I asked why the pool was empty, and she told me that there are maintenance signs, so I said no, there are not - she didn't seem to even know the pool was empty.

We got more than what we paid for. Thank you Bluewater Bay Sunrise Hotel. Our stay was 5-star. But kudos mostly go to the chefs and housekeeping. The food was exceptional and housekeeping was excellent.
