Description

Bosch Luys Kloof is a 14,000-hectare private nature reserve situated in the malaria-free Karoo on the northern slopes of the Great Swartberg, just 4 km from the scenic Seweweekspoort. The drive from Route 62 to the reserve covers 24 km and offers spectacular views, making it ideal for nature lovers. From the reserve entrance, an additional 8 km along the historic Bosluiskloof Pass leads to the lodge.

The lodge and chalets are built using clay brick cavity walls and thatched roofs, designed to blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. Natural materials and finishes are used throughout. The north-facing, stand-alone chalets offer guests privacy and comfort. Accommodation options include 2-sleeper chalets, 4-sleeper chalets, and a guest house that sleeps 8. Each unit is equipped with tea- and coffee-making facilities, a small lounge area, en-suite bathrooms, a fireplace, and a north-facing private balcony overlooking the valley.

Guests can enjoy a range of on-site amenities, including a swimming pool and a traditional pub. The reserve also features an extensive network of game and nature drive routes. There are two 4x4 trails, one of which leads to a lookout over the well-known Gamkaskloof, also referred to as "The Hell." The area is popular among hikers and mountain biking enthusiasts, with several tracks and roads to explore. A 100 km+ Karomino hiking experience was introduced in 2020.

Wildlife includes various indigenous species, such as antelopes, zebra, and black-backed jackals. There are also numerous bird species on the property, with guests having access to two different bird hides overlooking watering points on the reserve (please ask one of our staff members for a bird list). Guests are free to walk unaccompanied or join guided routes. A favourite activity for many guests includes a Guided Nature Drive with one of our guides in an open game viewer. Additional facilities include a curio shop offering handmade preserves, local art, and an interactive information centre.
