Coelacanth Sea & River Lodge is a truly unique property featuring three well-equipped, self-catering units nestled along the banks of the mystical Chalumna River near Kaysers Beach, Eastern Cape, close to where the historical coelacanth fish, once thought extinct, were rediscovered in South Africa in 1938.

Each unit is furnished with comfortable beds, offers private bathrooms, and includes self-catering facilities.

The lodge boasts a private slipway and jetty for easy river access and hassle-free fishing. Boat trailers and vehicles can be safely parked beneath shady coral trees just steps away from the slipway. Guests may take the on-site canoe and paddle upstream to explore the ever-changing landscape along the river or hike up to the cliff sides to take in the majestic views of the Chalumna valley. For the more adventurous, water skiing, boat tubing, and knee-boarding are available.

Guests can enjoy endless long walks along the beach, fish from the rocks or shoreline, or cast into the river. Other activities include sunbathing, swimming, using a throw net to catch live bait, digging for mud prawns, exploring the rock pools, or simply observing the abundant birdlife that feeds off the wetlands.

A mere 10-minute boat ride leads to a magnificent golden beach and a wide river mouth with direct ocean access. Tucked behind a bending hillside lies a hidden wetland, surrounded by crystal-clear turquoise waters and an abundance of rock pools that change shape and size with every advancing tide.
