DeKotzenhof is a small guest house that can accommodate up to 10 guests on a bed-only basis, and each room has tea- and coffee-making facilities. The rooms are all en-suite and furnished with either a double bed or twin beds, while the bathrooms are fitted with a shower only. There is 1 Executive Suite, which is a free-standing suite with a private verandah, and the bathroom is fitted with a bath only.

The guesthouse offers a relaxing lounge with a quiet reading corner or many games for the children to play when the rain sets in.

The town of Wakkerstroom derives its Afrikaans name from the Zulu meaning of the river that flows near the town, uThaka which means awake.
