You're invited to our family holiday home in the historic fishing village and sunny coastal resort of Dwarskersbos.
This home has been a family Christmas retreat for almost 2 decades. Time have moved on with grandchildren becoming teenagers and adults. Circumstances have changed with the owners (our children) immigrating to Australia. The family therefor decided to offer their happy place to other families during the coming Christmas season as well as accepting bookings for 2026.
The house is 13 km from Velddrif, where the Berg River meets the Atlantic Ocean.
One of the amazing sights is the incredible numbers of Cape Cormorants that roost upstream on the Berg River Estuary and then fly down the river mouth and then past our coastline to feed. Early mornings and late afternoons can often provide a constant stream of these birds, literally in their thousands, moving to and from their feeding and roosting area.
If you're lucky , you may see a pod of dolphins or whales.
Sunrise in Summer is around 05h30 and sunset at 20h00. Hot sunny days , ice cold wine and swimming in mild water is an experience not to be missed.
All the usual markets and services are available in Velddrif.
Travel +- 150 km to Franschhoek, Stellenbosch and the Paarl and let the landscape speak to you or stay home on the front veranda or in the backyard in a hammock under our old Manatoka tree, home of a Cape Robin.
The holiday home's five bedrooms , three bathrooms, two living areas and central kitchen is furnished and equipped for 12 people. The yard is fully paved and fenced. Parking is secured behind a lockable sliding gate.
An alarm and remote panic button system is fully functional with emergency support provided by ADT.
A kayak with safety jacket, bicycle, pair of binoculars or fishing gear is available on request.
Pets are generally permitted on the beach, but owners are encouraged to pick up after their dogs and have them leashed.
Come and enjoy this Christmas with friends and family in our special old house where laughter and music was common and the air infused with the smell of Rooikrans firewood.
