Ons sal 100% weer soontoe gaan. Die staff was verskriklik behulpsaam. Dit was absoluut amazing, die view, die kos, die kamer en die staproete na die waterval, baie baie romanties. Moenie probeer om met 'n gewone kar daar uit te kom nie. Dit is oor die 7 km baie erg grondpad met bulte en gate. Dit het ons langer as 'n uur gevat net om uit te vind dat gewone karre onder stop en hulle jou kom haal met 'n 4x4, maar al daai moeite was die verblyf werd! Amazing.

Don't go unless you have a sturdy four by four vehicle. Beware the road! I found this lodge online and the photographs made it look wonderful. The location is superb, with beautiful mountain views and walks, but access to the lodge is almost impossible/impassable. One has to navigate 16 kms of extremely rough and steep dirt road, which has washed away into deep dongas in parts, and there are slippery patches of loose rock and constant sump-crunching middle-mannetjie. We phoned the owner to check we were on the right road and received a very unsympathetic response. Staff were welcoming and the accommodation was pleasant, but we chose not to stay and brave the road more times.

Hi Alison, thank you. We did send you a booking form which, unfortunately, I think you missed, as it was never returned to me. This is on the booking form with other relevant information for you and us. Forest Creek is set in the mountains, in a box canyon; therefore, there is one road in and one road out! The last 4 km of our dirt road is only suitable for a high clearance vehicle. We require that you advise us what vehicle you’ll be driving. Most people come up in all types of vehicles, but if you are unhappy to do so, we will collect you for the last 4 km and leave your vehicle at the bottom farmhouse, where it is safe. There is a R120.00 transportation charge per trip. Should you require transportation, please call us on the landline 013 2358925 when you are at the Machadodorp toll plaza or 30 minutes away; this gives us enough time to get down the hill to collect you without you having to wait. We hope you all enjoyed the rest of your holiday in South Africa and got to visit all your places on your list. The R36 is being resurfaced by the Government; the N4 to us is complete. Beautiful lodge in a beautiful setting but too far from Dullstroom (the town). The setting is beautiful and the rooms are clean and spacious, and we were received by friendly staff as well. The issue was that we thought we were going to stay in Dullstroom; however, the lodge is about an hour's drive away from Dullstroom, with a very bad dirt road of approximately 8 km to get to the actual lodge. This made it impossible for us to drive into Dullstroom and drive back in the evening after dark, so we were forced to eat at the lodge, which was very expensive. There is also no WiFi and no signal, so we couldn't get in touch with anyone.

Hi Cindy, thanks for this. Yes, we are 60 km from Dullstroom in the Steinkampsburg Mountains. Sorry about the WiFi; it was a Vodacom issue and is now working well. Ongelooflike mooi. Daar is WiFi, maar sein is baie swak en die WiFi werk nie juis nie, alhoewel dit realisties is vir tussen die berge, dit skep ook darm die ideale geleentheid vir rus en wegbreek.

Dit is 'n baie lekker plek of af te skakel van die gemeenskap om lekker te rus. Ons as familie kon lekker afskakel en rus. Kon ook die lekker wandelroetes stap. Daar moet net aandag gegee word aan maintenance van die plek bv. die bossies voor die beach house en die hoofontvangs trim sodat 'n mens 'n lekker uitsig oor die berge kan hê. Die wandelroetes moet ook bietjie beter gemerk word.

Asemrowende natuurskoon. Die pad na die lodge is sleg met los klippe en plek-plek uitstaande rotse. Beslis nie geskik vir stadsvoertuie nie. Ons was vriendelik verwelkom by Ontvangs, en verduidelik hoe om by die Forest Cottage uit te kom. Die houthuis was netjies en skoon met aankoms, maar lyk verwaarloos. Die hout kort behandeling, die voordeur maak moeilik oop en toe, en die toilet se basis lek water op die vloer. Knaagdiere het aan ons brood en beskuit geëet deur die nag, so maak seker alles is in houers wat kan toemaak. Die laaste kritiek is dat die wandelpaaie swak gemerk is met te min aanduidings, veral op pad terug van die waterval af. Die positiewe is die asemrowende natuurskoon en voëllewe in die kloof. Ons het ook rietbokke, bosbokke, otters, dassies, bobbejane, blouape en die arende gesien. Nog 'n pluspunt is dat die Forest Cottage dierevriendelik is - my bull terrier het dit net so geniet. Die ligging en natuurskoon is uitsonderlik, en maak 'n besoek aan Forest Creek die moeite werd. Spesiale dank aan die staf van die oord wat uit hulle pad gaan om jou besoek so aangenaam moontlik te maak. Laastens - neem maar addisionele beligting saam, daar is nie 'n alternatief vir beurtkrag nie.

Dear Johan, thank you for taking the time to write this review. It is always helpful to have your input. We have a collection service for those who drive small vehicles. The issues you mentioned have been dealt with, thank you, I am happy that you got to see so many animals and birds, and on that subject your nightly greedy visitors are Door mice, the ones with the fluffy tails, I have one that comes in my lounge at night to steal the cat food! right in front of my eyes, I do not have the heart to trap him (Yet), however we did manage to trap 4 at the cottage. As to why you were not given lamps for the loadshedding, I will have to find out, as we do have recharable lamps that work during loadshedding. Happy that your bull terrier had fun too.
