Rockwood Forest Lodge is a unique wooden forest hideaway on the banks of the Godwini Stream deep in the indigenous Karkloof Forest of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. The lodge is perfect for families or couples looking for a digital detox with some forest bathing, as there is no cellphone reception or Wi-Fi. The cabin sleeps 6 adults in 3 bedrooms with 3 bathrooms. The unit is accessed using a gravel road, and 4 x 4 or high-clearance vehicles are recommended, especially during wet weather.

The main upstairs bedroom is furnished with a king-size four-poster bed. The bathroom has a bath. The remaining upstairs bedroom has 2 single beds and an en-suite bathroom with a shower. The downstairs bedroom has 2 single beds with an en-suite bathroom with a shower over the bath. Towels, linen, soap and shampoo for provided.

The kitchen is equipped with a fridge, small freezer, convection-microwave and hob. Basic condiments like tea, coffee, sugar, milk, cooking oil, spices, as well as firewood, charcoal and firelighters are provided. The dining room can seat up to 8 people and the lounge has a fireplace, TV and music station.

For the outdoor enthusiast, Rockwood has over 25km of world-class and well-maintained trails for walking, hiking, running and mountain biking through grasslands, over streams and lush indigenous forest of the Karkloof Nature Reserve. Guests have exclusive use of a children’s outdoor play area with a jungle gym and zipline, as well as walks to waterfalls upstream. Brush up on your birding knowledge with one of the expert guidebooks and listen to the sounds of the forests. Keep up with sport on TV, enjoy ball games on the lawn, board games indoors, or simply relax on the veranda and look into the trees. On colder evenings, guests can feel at home in front of a warm fireplace.

Rockwood Forest Lodge is a 20-minute drive from the other Rockwood units. The closest town is Howick with numerous shopping options and restaurants along the way. The area is well-known for its stunning natural attractions, including both the Howick and Karkloof waterfalls, as well as its historical significance as the site where Nelson Mandela was captured in 1962. Howick and the Karkloof are the ideal destinations for those seeking time in nature and outdoors.
