Description

SANParks Karoo National Park offers dolerite cliffs, tranquillity, and ample space, located just outside Beaufort West along the N1. It is the perfect stopover between Cape Town and Johannesburg, and only three hours from the Garden Route. The park is ideal for a family holiday or weekend getaway.

Guests can enjoy game viewing in their own vehicles or take a guided tour through the Karoo’s ecosystem. By late afternoon, the pink and blue hues of the sky enchant visitors, and the Karoo is set ablaze with magnificent shades of orange and red.

The main camp features Cape Dutch-style self-catering units. Breakfast is included in the rates for these units. The units are serviced daily, and linen and towels are provided.

The rest camp’s swimming pool and accommodation are close to the reception and restaurant.

In addition, there are campsites and caravan stands, where guests make use of communal ablution blocks with showers, baths, kitchen facilities, a stove, and a laundry room. There is also a coin-operated washing machine available.

An à la carte restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner, and there is a shop selling basic goods and curios. Picnic, braai, and ablution facilities, as well as a swimming pool, are available to day visitors at the Bulkraal picnic area. Picnic and braai facilities are also available at the Doornhoek picnic area.

The Old Schuur Interpretive Centre is housed in an old farmhouse just outside the rest camp and close to the campsite. Here, guests can find information about the Karoo’s fauna and flora, as well as the ecological history of the park.
