Thota Lodge Bessiebos Private Campsite is tucked away in the vast southern Kalahari Desert of the Northern Cape, ideally located en route to Botswana and the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Completely off the grid, this secluded campsite invites guests to experience the raw beauty and tranquillity of the Kalahari.

Set on a gently rolling dune, the private campsite can accommodate up to 12 guests and features basic ablution facilities, including a toilet, shower, and a boiler for warm water. A kitchen area with a countertop and washing-up sink is provided, and solar lighting is available in both the kitchen and ablution areas, as there is no electricity.

Guests have access to drinkable borehole water and braai facilities. Camel thorn and Shepherd trees offer ample shade for pitching tents in the soft Kalahari sand. With no fencing, the campsite provides an immersive and up-close experience with nature. Ideal for travellers looking to get off the beaten track and return to basics, this is the perfect spot for a peaceful and authentic Kalahari escape.

Guests are welcome to hike along designated farm paths approved by the owners. For those who enjoy exploring, 4×4 self-drive tours of the surroundings are available. The area is a paradise for birdwatchers and insect lovers, with over 100 bird species recorded. Sitting near a watering hole offers excellent opportunities to spot wildlife and capture photographs. Springbok, oryx, and occasionally shy animals like pangolins and aardvarks can be seen.
