Description

The Buffalo Valley - River Lodge is one of three timber self-catering lodges available to rent in Buffalo Valley which is a large conservation area bordering the serene Goukamma River just 2 km upstream from the warm Indian Ocean. The lodges are all out of sight and sound to one another with complete privacy, providing each with its own unique environment within the 150-hectare conservation area.

The sunny River Lodge has a panoramic view of the pristine Goukamma River and sleeps 6 people. The lodge contains 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area. The first bedroom contains a double bed and an upstairs mezzanine with a single daybed. The second bedroom contains 2 single beds and an upstairs mezzanine with a single daybed. Each bathroom contains a shower, a toilet and a washbasin. Hot water is provided by solar heating.

The kitchen is well-equipped for self-catering and is equipped with a gas fridge and hob, a kettle, cutlery and crockery, pots and pans. The dining area contains a 6-seater dining table and chairs. The lounge area contains a fireplace, camp chairs and a single daybed. The lights are solar-powered. The lodge opens to a deck with a picnic bench that offers ringside seats to spectacular sunsets over fynbos hills. Out the back of the lodge is a lapa area with a built-in braai. A braai grid is provided and firewood, as well as firelighters, are available for purchase.

It’s just a short walk from the lodge through coastal forest to the grassy banks of the river where you can enjoy a spot of fishing. The area contains 2 circular walks where you can view a variety of birdlife in the mixed coastal dune thicket and fynbos, as well as gain access to the Goukamma Nature Reserve.
