Very well located and well appointed, pretty and comfortable cottage. De Hoop Cottage was very well situated for walking into town - it was not far yet the setting was spacious and tranquil. The cottage was very well appointed. The beds and linen were very comfortable and the kitchen had every appliance you could possibly need. When we arrived, the hot tub was ready for us as requested and we loved the whole experience. The stairs to the bedrooms were quite steep and the one bathroom floor a bit squeaky, but it added to the charm. We would definitely stay there again.

Delightful. Spacious and wonderfully peaceful outlook. Lovely cottage and so well appointed. Every appliance you could wish for.

Rejuvenating. Secluded. Surrounded by greenery. Every appliance available, even tumble dryer, washing machine and hot tub. Two toilets and this was the cottage, not even the main house. Heated bathroom towel rails. Walking distance to town. Freshly baked bread on arrival. Only issue, creaky bathroom floorboards.

Disappointed. Our experience at De Hoop Victorian Cottage was mixed. While the person who welcomed us was kind, they unfortunately failed to explain that the air-conditioning units were set in reverse mode (something we were unfamiliar with, coming from France). As a result, we spent our first night in the middle of winter enduring temperatures as low as 5°C outside, with no heating. It was only thanks to the help of a friend that we finally understood how to operate the system, and the next two nights were much more comfortable. There were no welcoming touches upon arrival (no drinking water, milk, coffee, etc.), and firewood (which was too damp to burn properly) had to be paid for separately. The kitchen equipment (dishes, bowls, utensils) was either lacking or very outdated (for example, the toaster looked like it was from the 1980s). Ventilation in all the cupboards (kitchen, bedroom, and living room) was poor, leaving a musty smell. The bathtub also had no overflow pipe, which caused water to spill onto the wooden floor. Over time, this seems to have damaged the floorboards, which now creak loudly — to the point where we were genuinely concerned about stepping through the floor. There was no hairdryer provided (despite my polite request), which was a problem as I have long, thick hair. I would like to emphasize the importance of listing more accurate and detailed amenities, as this helps guests know what to expect. Unfortunately, the nights were far from restful. In addition to the cold of the first two nights, we were repeatedly woken up by the sounds of animals (likely rodents or other small mammals) running in the ceiling above the bedroom. While we fully understand that this is a rural property, we would have appreciated more consideration for guests’ comfort. Overall, we were disappointed with our stay at the De Hoop Victorian Cottage because both the house and the cottage are beautiful from the outside, and the surrounding countryside is stunning. Unfortunately, we will not be returning to this property, but we do hope that efforts will be made to improve the overall service and guest experience.

Véronique We are so sorry to hear that your experience at the De Hoop property was not as expected. Our sincerest apologies. Thank you for your detailed review; we will surely take action to fix the problems mentioned to improve future guests' stay. De Hoop is a very old house and cottage, and we are aware that certain problems come with the old property, but we will try to fix as much as possible. There is supposed to be separate heaters in the rooms, but we understand that these don't always produce enough heat for the larger rooms. We will also laminate instructions on the use of the aircons. De Hoop is a fully self-catering unit, but we usually do have tea and coffee available; we will make sure to check in on that. We are planning on taking away some of the thick foliage surrounding the cottage that is part of the issue with the mustiness, and afterwards, we will start plans on getting better ventilation and redoing flooring where necessary. Wonderlike wegbreek! Ons het die naweek in die kothuis geweldig geniet, dit was verskriklik warm buite en die huis met sy lugversorgers was 'n wonderlike lafenis. Die kothuis is perfek vir 4 mense en baie gerieflik uiteengesit en het alles wat benodig word vir 'n lekker wegbreek - nie nodig om enigiets saam te bring nie.

Wonderful staff, beautiful comfortable cottage. Absolute gem in Greyton: we lived in the village in the past and were even surprised at this amazing location: perfect, perfect.
