Barton Vineyards, with its 5 Tuscan-style, self-catering villas, and 1 separate cottage is located near Botriver in the heart of the Kogelberg National Park. The farm is an hour’s drive from Cape Town International Airport and a 20-minute drive from Hermanus.
Each villa is equipped with a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining room, and lounge. Free Wi-Fi Internet access is available. Each villa has its own Jacuzzi or an eco-friendly wood-fired hot tub, braai facilities, and private pool with breathtaking views of the valley and the Kogelberg Nature Reserve.
There is a separate self-catering cottage, a short drive from the villas ideal for small families. The cottage offers 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom and features self-catering facilties.
There are over 70 acres of vineyards situated on the south slopes of the Kogelberg, 760 m above sea level, absorbing the cooling sea breezes from Walker Bay. The vineyards produce Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Mourvèdre, and Malbec. While the majority of Barton wine is exported to the UK, a small quantity is retained for sale in South Africa and is available in restaurants in the locality and from the tasting room.
Barton’s olive groves nestle on the Kogelberg mountain range overlooking Walker Bay. The olives are hand-picked at optimal ripeness and cold-pressed on the day of harvest to give a top-quality olive oil with low acidity. Barton’s olive oil is a blend of Frantoia, Lechino, Coratina, and Mission olives producing oil with an aroma of freshly cut grass, a fruity flavor in the mouth with a hint of pepper which continues to the aftertaste.
Barton honey is derived from beehives sited amongst the fynbos of the Kogelberg Eco Park and adjacent to Barton’s lavender fields. The aroma and taste reflect the habitat of the bees.
The views from the villas are of the surrounding mountains, Barton's vineyards, olive groves, and lavender fields to Walker Bay. The villas provide a perfect base from which to explore the surrounding area.
