Description

Heartwood Homestead offers a unique, off-the-grid farm stay experience on a tranquil and scenic working farm located on the eastern side of East London. This eco-friendly, reclaimed timber, zinc-clad house is nestled in an indigenous forest, providing a secluded getaway with views overlooking the Gonubie River valley.

The house accommodates 2 adults, with a large couch available for a child or two. It features 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, and an open-plan living area. The bedroom is situated on the mezzanine level and is furnished with a double bed and shelves for clothing storage. The bathroom includes a shower, toilet, and basin. The property also boasts an environmentally revolutionary Dry Compost Toilet, which is different from a pit latrine or long drop.

On the lower level, the open-plan kitchenette is equipped with basic appliances, including a fridge, a 2-plate gas stove, and a selection of utensils, crockery, and cutlery. The adjacent lounge area offers a large, comfortable couch and stacker doors that open onto a verandah.

Guests can follow the Forest Deck trail through the forest, leading to a beautiful deck with stunning views of the Gonubie River valley and a relaxing swing bench.

Heartwood Homestead is completely solar-powered and the surrounding farm is home to free-ranging chickens, ducks, chicks, sheep with a working Anatolian Shepherd dog, rabbits, a pig, a small indigenous nursery, and a carpentry workshop.
