Thota Lodge Camelthorn Chalet is a rustic thatched-roof self-catering unit nestled in the vast southern Kalahari Desert of the Northern Cape, ideally located en route to Botswana and the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. This accommodation invites guests to experience the raw beauty and tranquillity of the Kalahari. Each unit offers a unique and authentic desert experience, combining rustic charm with unspoiled natural surroundings.

This off-the-grid, solar-powered cottage can accommodate up to 8 guests and comprises 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. Each bedroom is comfortably furnished with 2 single beds. The shared bathroom is fitted with a shower. Linen and bath towels are provided.

The chalet features a kitchenette equipped with a gas stove and oven, cutlery, crockery, tea- and coffee-making facilities, and a gas freezer. The lounge offers comfortable seating as well as 2 single beds. There is a charming dining area where guests can enjoy their meals. Outside, guests can relax around the boma.

Built on a dune, the chalet offers stunning, uninterrupted views of the Kalahari landscape. The interior and exterior walls are constructed with sandbags filled on site with a mixture of sand and cement, helping to retain warmth in winter and keep the space cool in summer.

Guests are welcome to hike along designated farm paths approved by the owners. For those who enjoy exploring, 4×4 self-drive tours of the surroundings are available. The area is a paradise for birdwatchers and insect enthusiasts, with over 100 bird species recorded. Sitting near a watering hole offers excellent opportunities to spot wildlife.
