Nestled in the heart of Calitzdorp, South Africa’s Port Wine capital, Karoo Life Bed & Breakfast offers a charming and historic retreat along the famous Route 62. Ideally located within an hour’s drive of the spectacular Cango Caves and the scenic Garden Route, Karoo Life provides an excellent base for exploring the Klein Karoo.

Situated midway between Cape Town and Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), the property is approximately a comfortable four-hour drive from either city. For air travelers, George Airport is about 90 minutes away, while Mossel Bay can be reached in under two hours through picturesque mountain passes.

The main building, dating back to 1880, is steeped in history, having served as the home of the local blacksmith, lodging for travelers, and known as the 'Skoenmakerserf' with the workshop of local cobblers. Today, it offers exceptional accommodation and dining for visitors exploring the winding routes between Cape Town and Gqeberha.

Accommodation includes one room upstairs in the main house and four charming garden rooms. The main house serves as a welcoming social and dining hub, while a large stoep overlooks the extensive gardens, offering views of the surrounding mountains and a tranquil swimming pool—perfect for relaxing after a day of wine-tasting or outdoor adventures.

Guests can enjoy a delicious breakfast daily, served either in the elegant yellowwood-floored dining area or on the stoep, soaking in the peaceful surroundings.

Salie Restaurant, located on the premises, is renowned for serving the finest Ostrich steaks in Calitzdorp, Wood-fired Pizzas, and Klein Karoo specialties such as Lamb Curry and succulent Lamb Chops.
