Wildfires: Please note that Betty’s Bay is a fire-prone area, and we ask guests to exercise extra caution when making outdoor fires for braais or smoking. Always ensure that fires are kept under control, never left unattended, and fully extinguished with water after use. Avoid disposing of cigarette butts in the bushes to prevent accidental fires. Your vigilance helps protect the property and surrounding environment.

Parking and Porch: The upper open porch (above the eastern garage) is off-limits for parking, vehicles, or barbecuing. Please use the designated parking area in front of the garage and ensure that the shared driveway to the neighbouring property remains unobstructed.

Smoking: Smoking indoors is strictly prohibited. Please use personal ashtrays or shells outdoors, and do not dispose of cigarette butts or matches in the bushes.

Electricity and Gas: The electricity meter is located behind the kitchen door. Please check the meter for available units, and if it runs out, you can purchase additional units at Penguin Place or online. For the stove, switch on the control above the stove only when in use, and remember to turn it off between uses.

Plumbing and Septic Tank: All plumbing is connected to a septic tank. Please do not dispose of food waste, dangerous liquids, fats, or feminine hygiene items in the toilets, sinks, or showers.

Kitchen Supplies: The cupboards are stocked with cookware, dishes, and cutlery. If anything breaks, please inform us and replace it if possible. Return items to where you found them.

Braai Guidelines: Use the Weber braai, positioning it away from vegetation, and keep water or a hose nearby. Only charcoal briquettes are allowed; do not braai in strong winds. After use, allow the ash to cool, dispose of it in a plastic bag, and take it to the municipal dump.

Windows: Betty’s Bay experiences strong winds. Ensure windows are secured, especially at night or when it’s windy. This also prevents baboons from entering.

Patio Furniture: If you use the additional chairs and folding table outside, please bring them indoors during windy conditions to prevent them from blowing away and potentially causing injury. If it looks like rain, please bring the sleeper couch cushion indoors.

Security: Close all windows when you’re out or at night to avoid attracting small baboons and theft. Do not leave valuables visible near windows or in your car.

Wildlife and Pets: Baboons frequently roam the area, so please ensure windows and doors are never left open unattended. Keep all food securely stored, and always double-check that doors and windows are closed. Baboon monitors will use vuvuzelas to alert residents of baboons in the vicinity. Please listen for this warning and take necessary precautions to prevent a baboon from entering the home and causing damage. Should they intrude upon our premises and cause considerable damage, we will be compelled to impose fines for additional cleaning and repair work.

Noise and Occupancy: Please keep noise at a respectful level to ensure the comfort of our neighbours. In accordance with local bylaws, loud music may only be played until 10 pm. Oppieknoppie can accommodate a maximum of 8 guests, as per our insurance, fire, and safety regulations. Unfortunately, we can’t make exceptions to that limit.

Cleaning and Departure:
Leave the house tidy, with dishes washed and stored.
Dispose of garbage in the large bin next to the stairs outside the kitchen and ensure the baboon-proof latch is locked.
Municipal refuse collection occurs on Wednesdays. Place bags by the driveway before 08:00. If missed, dispose of them at the dump next to the Betty’s Bay library (Across from the Caltex Garage).
Ensure all windows are latched, close curtains, and store the Weber braai and chairs inside.
Lock all doors and leave the keys on the key bunch when checking out.
Furniture and Items: Please do not remove furniture, utensils, or other items from the house. Always use a cutting board to protect the tables from damage. To prevent stains on bed linen, kindly refrain from eating or drinking in the bedrooms.

Damages: Guests are responsible for replacing any damaged items, with costs deducted from the breakage deposit. We encourage open communication and kindly ask that you inform us of any breakages or damage during check-out. For more information regarding the breakage deposit, please refer to our terms and conditions.

Reporting Issues: Please report any major defects or problems to your host, Heide Botha, immediately.

Housekeeping: Cleaning services during your stay can be arranged in advance, at least a week prior, and are payable by the guest. No services are available on Sundays or public holidays.

Payments and Liabilities: The full outstanding balance must be paid 7 days before arrival to receive the keys. The host is not liable for any losses or inconveniences caused by events beyond their control, but they will do their best to provide a replacement or alternative if any appliance or service malfunctions.

Events: No bachelor or bachelorette parties are allowed.
