The Mandela Day Marathon is an annual commemorative road running event held each August in KwaZulu-Natal, starting at Manaye Hall in Pietermaritzburg—where Nelson Mandela gave his last public speech in 1961—and finishing at the Mandela Capture Site in Howick. It features a full marathon (42?km), half marathon (21?km), and 10?km race, drawing over 20,000 participants who run to honour Mandela’s legacy while also boosting local community empowerment and tourism.
