House Rules

General Conduct

Please treat the guesthouse, gardens, and furnishings with care and respect — it’s our home and a shared space for everyone to enjoy.

Quiet hours are from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM to maintain the tranquil atmosphere of the property.

No parties or unregistered guests are allowed unless arranged with management in advance.

Kindly keep voices and music at a respectful level, especially near other guests’ rooms.

Energy & Water Use

We are completely off-grid and solar-powered, so please be mindful of electricity usage.

Avoid running multiple high-power devices at once.

Turn off lights, fans, and heaters when not in use.

Water is precious in the Klein Karoo — please use it sparingly.

Limit shower times.

Do not leave taps running unnecessarily.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Rooms are serviced daily. Please communicate if you prefer privacy or a specific cleaning time.

Towels are replaced on request to help conserve water.

If you notice any maintenance issues, please let us know immediately.

Shared Spaces

Feel free to enjoy the gardens, patios, and pool area — these are spaces to unwind and connect.

The pool is used at your own risk. No glass near the pool area, please.

Outdoor furniture and decor are for everyone’s use — kindly return items to their place after use.

Respect other guests’ privacy and personal space.

Food & Communal Areas

We host dining nights, harvest tables, and art events on select evenings. You’re welcome to join in if bookings are open.

If you’re preparing food or using communal facilities, please clean up after yourself.

No food is allowed in the bedrooms to prevent attracting insects.

Smoking Policy

Smoking is only permitted in designated outdoor areas.

Please use the ashtrays provided — do not throw cigarette butts in the garden or pots.

Pets

Pets are welcome only by prior arrangement, as we share our space with other guests and local wildlife.

Parking & Security

Secure parking is available on-site.

Shades of Africa Guesthouse provides a safe and peaceful environment. Please ensure that you lock your doors and windows when leaving your room or vehicle.
